Women’s Basketball Travels to Northern Illinois on Wednesday

BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo women's basketball team will travel to DeKalb one final time for a clash with the Northern Illinois Huskies on Wednesday at 7pm (EST). NIU is leaving the Mid-American Conference to join the Horizon League next season.
The game will be streamed on ESPN+ with Andrew Garcia (play-by-play) and Kate Constable (color) announcing and can be heard on 1520 AM and the Varsity Network with Vinnie Christiano III on the call.
This is the 35th overall meeting between Buffalo and Northern Illinois with the Huskies owning a 22-12 series advantage. The Bulls fell to the Huskies at Alumni Arena on January 7.
In a game that saw multiple lead changes and runs, Buffalo came away victorious in a 69-66 win over Toledo 69-66 on Senior Day at Alumni Arena. The Bulls were fittingly led by senior Gabby McDuffie who recorded a UB career-high 18 points, including a perfect 9-of-9 from the free throw line. Freshman Aniya Rowe also turned in a stellar performance, flirting with a triple double, recording 18 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists. Fellow rookie Meg Lucas also scored in double figures with 14 points.
Rowe leads the Bulls offensively, averaging 13.3 points per game. She has scored in double figures 17 times and leads UB in three-point field goal percentage (.326), assists (96) and minutes played (31.5) while also ranking seventh in the league in steals per contest (1.9). Lucas is second in the MAC and ranks 34th nationally in rebounding (9.8 rpg) while also averaging 10.1 points per contest. The Bulls are second the MAC and rank 43rd in the nation in offensive rebounds per game (14.2). UB has started four freshmen in 10 straight games and has started three rookies 16 times. They are one of two teams in the MAC to have a rookie leading them in minutes played.
Northern Illinois is 6-22 overall and 3-13 in league play after defeating Eastern Michigan 70-61 on Saturday. The Huskies are led offensively by St. John's transfer Navaeh Wingate who is averaging 12.7 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. Nadechka Laceen is also averaging in double figures (10.4) and freshman Emilie Sorensen (9.8 ppg) leads the team in three-point field goal percentage (.375) and minutes per game (33.0). Wingate is second in the MAC in free throw attempts (138) while ranking eighth in steals per game (1.93). Maria Serracanta leads the MAC in assist-to-turnover ratio (+1.93) and is 10th in assists per game (3.7).
In league action, NIU is fifth in three-point percentage (.326) steals per contest (8.2) and opponent rebounds per game (34.9).
Up next, Buffalo will close out the season at Massachusetts on Saturday, March 7. Tipoff from the Mullins Center is set for 1pm.
