2/4/2026 2:12:00 PM | Women's Basketball
BUFFALO, NY – In front of the largest crowd in University at Buffalo women's basketball history, the Bulls fell to Central Michigan 90-59 on Wednesday afternoon at Alumni Arena. The 5,778 fans surpassed the previous mark set during the 2025 WNIT championship game.
Freshman guard Aniya Rowe led the Bulls once again as she scored a game-high 25 points to go with five rebounds and five assists. Fellow freshman Diann Jackson scored a career-high 13 points on 50% shooting from the floor and junior Janyah Bohanon also scored in double figures for the second straight game with 11 points.
Rowe gave the Bulls a spark, opening the game with a steal and score, but CMU answered with a 13-0 run to go up by eight at the media timeout and they would lead 24-10 at the end of the first.
The UB scoring drought continued for the first three minutes of the third quarter before Rowe got a floater in the lane to drop, but CMU rattled off a 5-0 run in less than a minute to put them up by 26 and force a UB timeout at the 6:29 mark. The Bulls began to chip away as Bohanon before Paula Lopez raced up the court for a fastbreak layup. Later, Jackson knocked down a jumper in the paint and Bohanon and Rowe got to the rim for a pair of layups, but the visitors drained a three at the buzzer to take a 51-29 lead at the half.
Jackson went to work early in the third quarter, scoring on two straight possessions before Bohanon knocked down a free throw line jumper to pull UB within 17 early in the third quarter, but CMU answered with an and-one bucket to go back up by 20 at the media timeout and they would extend the lead to 30 at the end of the third.
The Bulls attacked the glass to start the fourth quarter as Jackson and Gabby McDuffie scored on a pair of offensive rebound putbacks before Rowe knocked down a step-back three and then found Jackson for a fastbreak layup to cut the lead to 25 but they would get no closer.
Buffalo recorded 15 assists and scored 18 points off turnovers, but the Chippewas won the battle on the glass, including 21 offensive rebounds which they turned into 19 second chance points, while also adding 23 points off UB miscues and 40 points in the paint.
Up next, Buffalo will welcome Louisiana Monroe on National Girls and Women in Sports Day Day at Alumni Arena on Saturday, February 7 at 2pm in the second game of the MAC-Sun Belt Challenge.
