Women’s Basketball Hosts Louisiana Monroe on National Girls & Women in Sports Day at Alumni Arena

BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo women's basketball team takes on Louisiana Monroe in the second game of the MAC-SBC Challenge on Saturday at 2pm. The team will be celebrating National Girls & Women in Sports Day with a pregame clinic and several in-game elements.
The game will be streamed on ESPN+ with Paul Peck (play-by-play) and Matt Mattia (color) announcing and can be heard on AM 1400 and the Varsity Network with Vinnie Christiano III on the call.
This is the first ever meeting between the two programs. The Bulls are 2-3 overall in the MAC-SBC Challenge and are 0-1 all-time against teams from the state of Louisiana.
In front of the largest crowd in University at Buffalo women's basketball history, the Bulls fell to Central Michigan 90-59 on Wednesday afternoon at Alumni Arena. Freshman guard Aniya Rowe led the Bulls once again as she scored a game-high 25 points to go with five rebounds and five assists. Fellow freshman Diann Jackson scored a career-high 13 points on 50% shooting from the floor and junior Janyah Bohanon also scored in double figures for the second straight game with 11 points.
Rowe leads the Bulls offensively, averaging 13.1 points per game. She has scored in double figures 12 times and leads UB in three-point field goal percentage (.371) and assists (74) while also ranking seventh in the league in steals per contest (2.0). Freshman Meg Lucas leads the league and ranks 26th nationally in rebounding (9.9 rpg). The Bulls are third the MAC and rank in the top 50 nationally in offensive rebounds per game (14.3) while also ranking third in the league in three-point field goal defense (.291). UB has started four freshmen in three straight games and has started three rookies eight times. They are one of two teams in the MAC to have a rookie leading them in minutes played.
Louisiana Monroe is 10-12 overall and 5-8 in league play after defeating Georgia State 81-62 on Wednesday. ULM welcomed 12 newcomers to the roster this season. They join Indiana State as the only Division I programs with zero returners. The Warhawks are led offensively by graduate student J'Mani Ingram who is averaging 11.9 points per game. Nakiyah Mays-Price is also averaging in double figures at 10.3 points per contest while leading the team in assists (4.4 apg) and Marcavia Shavers is also a main contributor, averaging just under a double-double with 9.6 points and 9.2 rebounds per game. Individually, Mays-Prince leads the Sun Belt in assists per game (4.4) and Shavers is fourth in the league in rebounding (9.2 rpg) and fifth in double-doubles (7).
As a team, Louisiana Monroe is eighth in the nation in offensive rebounding (16.2), 14th in bench points per game (27.6), 47th in steals per game (10.6) and 48th in turnovers forced per game (20.1).
Up next, Buffalo will travel to Bowling Green for a clash with the Falcons on Tuesday, February 10 at 7pm.
