Bulls Drop Contest to Ball State on Wednesday

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women's basketball team fell to Ball State 88-55 on Wednesday night at Alumni Arena.
The Bulls were led offensively by the freshman duo of Aniya Rowe and Ella Corry. Rowe led UB in scoring for the 13th time this season with a game-high 18 points to go with six assists and Corry recorded a new career-high with 16 points, including an efficient 5-of-9 shooting from the floor. Fellow freshman Meg Lucas notched 12 rebounds on the night.
Corry gave the Bulls a spark early on as she converted on a trio of jumpers in the paint and the game would be tied at eight at the first media timeout, but the Cardinals rattled off a 9-0 run out of the break and they would take a 20-11 lead at the end of the first.
Turnovers plagued the Bulls early in the second quarter as the Cardinals extended their lead to 12 before Rowe knocked down a pair of triples from the parking lot and Gabby McDuffie drove and converted on a pull-up jumper but the visitors maintained a double-digit lead at the media timeout. Diann Jackson continued to go to work on the boards as she grabbed a pair of offensive rebounds and Paula Lopez finished the play with a jumper in the lane and then Lopez hit came up with a steal and found Rowe for a fastbreak layup to cut the lead to eight, but Ball State closed the quarter on a 6-0 run to take a 41-27 lead at the half.
Lopez hit Jackson for a baseline layup on UB's first possession of the third quarter before Corry knocked down a turnaround jumper in the lane, but Ball State answered with an 8-0 run to take a 20-point lead at the media timeout and they would lead 65-42 at the end of the third and the Bulls would get no closer the rest of the way.
Buffalo scored 28 points in the paint but Ball State outrebounded the Bulls, including 16 offensive rebounds which they turned into 22 second chance points while also scoring 20 points off UB turnovers.
Up next, Buffalo will travel to Ypsilanti for a contest at Eastern Michigan on Saturday, February 21 at 2pm.
