BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo women's basketball head coach Kristen Sharkey announced the addition of three student-athletes to the roster for the 2025-26 season. Ella Wickstrom, Layla Hearne and Jadeah Marshall will join the program as incoming freshmen.
Jadeah Marshall is a 6'5 forward/center from Loganville, GA where she was a standout for Loganville High School. She is coming off a stellar senior season in which she was named the Regional Player of the Year and helped lead the Red Devils to a 25-4 overall record, a perfect 12-0 mark in region play, an 8-5A Region Championship and a GHSA Elite 8 appearance. Loganville finished the season ranked in the top 10 in the state for the fifth straight year. She set single-game school records with 14 blocks and 25 rebounds in a game and set the school's single-season record for total rebounds (440), defensive rebounds (243) and offensive rebounds (197).
"Jadeah is hungry, driven and ready to work. She brings elite hands, natural athleticism and a presence around the rim that we value deeply. I personally take pride in developing post players and I'm excited to pour into her growth and help her become everything she's capable of being. As a staff, we knew right away she fit. She's a young person ready to commit to her excellence personally, academically and athletically. This is just the beginning of something special!"
Layla Hearne is a 6'1 guard/forward from Murray Bridge, Australia. She currently plays for the Southern Tigers of NBL1, making her debut at 17 years old. She scored a career-high 14 points and added seven rebounds against The Woodville Warriors in NBL1 action. Hearne has also represented South Australia in state competition and played AAU ball for ATC Academy. In addition to basketball, she has been involved in Premier League netball for the South Adelaide Panthers, also debuting as a 17 year-old and making the grand final in her first year. Off the court, Hearne was a four-time recipient of the Unity College Academic Award.
"Layla is the definition of toughness. She's wiry, relentless, driven and positionless with a high IQ and ability to stretch the floor at 6'1. She's a competitor who can score, rebound, push the break and defend every position on the floor. Players like her change the game with their versatility and edge and we're fired up to have someone who impacts winning in so many ways."
Ella Wickstrom is a 5'10 guard from Melbourne, Australia. She played for the Sandringham Sabres where she averaged 16 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists and two steals per game while helping lead the program to two Victorian Championships and a pair of National Junior Classic championships.
"Ella is the ultimate competitor. She can fill up a stat sheet, but what separates her is everything she does that doesn't show up on it. Her toughness, physicality and fearlessness set the tone for everyone around her. She's an elite defender, an aggressive scorer and the kind of player who impacts winning in every possible way. We're proud to have her in our program."
