BUFFALO, NY - University at Buffalo women's basketball head coach Kristen Sharkey announced the addition of junior college transfer Briana Young to the roster for the 2026-27 season. Young will have three years of eligibility remaining.
The Bloomfield Hills, Michigan native comes to Buffalo after one season at Schoolcraft College in which she was named a First Team All-American, Freshman of the Year, Player of the Year and First-Team All-Conference after averaging 15.6 points per game on 53% shooting from the field and 73% from the free throw line as a freshman while helping lead the Ocelots to a MCCAA title, a Great Lakes District C championship and a NJCAA D2 Women's Basketball National Tournament appearance. Young also dominated the glass, averaging 7.8 rebounds per game. She registered nine double-doubles on the season and scored a season-high 31 points in a win over Jackson College.
Before college, Young was a standout at Bloomfield Hills High School, where she was a 1,000 point scorer and OAA All-Conference selection.
"Bri is hungry, humble, excited and ready," said Sharkey. "One of the best JUCO players in the country and she is just scratching the surface on how great she will be. Her ability to explode to the rim and get to the free throw line at a high clip makes her an immediate force with which to be reckoned. Her defensive anticipation, speed and physicality fits into the identity we are creating. We welcome Bri and her wonderful family with open arms into our Buffalo women's basketball community!"
