Bulls Fall to Western Michigan on Wednesday
2/25/2026 8:33:00 PM | Women's Basketball
BUFFALO, NY – Despite another second half rally, the University at Buffalo women's basketball team fell to Western Michigan 58-43 at Alumni Arena on Wednesday night.
Freshman Meg Lucas led the Bulls offensively for the second straight game with 15 points and six rebounds. Fellow rookie Diann Jackson also scored in double figures with 10 points to go with five rebounds and Aniya Rowe added eight points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals.
After trailing by 19 at the half, the Bulls began to chip away as Rowe got to the rim for a tough layup off glass before Jackson went to work inside, scoring on two straight possessions to cut the lead to 11 and force a WMU timeout at the media timeout. Jackson knocked down another jumper, Rowe hit Lucas with a beautiful pass for a layup and then the Bulls converted at the free throw line to cut the lead to five, but the Broncos answered with a pair of their own at the charity stripe to maintain a 40-33 lead at the end of the third.
Rowe got to the rim for a layup early in the fourth quarter, but the Broncos answered with a trio of triples to extend their lead to 14 and force a UB timeout at the 6:15 mark. Lucas continued to stay aggressive as she came up with a steal and converted the fastbreak bucket before slicing to the basket for a layup plus the foul to cut the lead back to single digits with just under four minutes remaining, but the Bulls would get no closer the rest of the way.
Buffalo was aggressive defensively, forcing 21 Broncos turnovers and scoring 20 points off those miscues while also maintaining a 28-16 advantage in the paint, but the Broncos made nine three-pointers and were an efficient 15-of-17 from the free throw line on the night.
Up next, Buffalo will host Toledo on Senior Day at Alumni Arena on Saturday, February 28 at 4:30pm. It is the second game of a doubleheader with the UB men who take on Central Michigan at 2pm.
