Women’s Basketball Hosts Toledo on Senior Day

BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo women's basketball team welcomes the Toledo Rockets to town on Senior Day at Alumni Arena on Saturday at 4:30pm. It is the second game of a doubleheader with the UB men who take on Central Michigan at 2pm.
The game will be streamed on ESPN+ with Paul Peck (play-by-play) and Matt Mattia (color) announcing and can be heard on AM 1400 and the Varsity Network with Vinnie Christiano III on the call.
This is the 43rd overall meeting between Buffalo and Toledo with the Bulls owning a 32-10 series advantage. The Bulls fell to the Rockets in Toledo on December 31.
Despite another second half rally, Buffalo fell to Western Michigan 58-43 on Wednesday night. Freshman Meg Lucas led the Bulls offensively for the second straight game with 15 points and six rebounds. Fellow rookie Diann Jackson also scored in double figures with 10 points to go with five rebounds and Aniya Rowe added eight points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Rowe leads the Bulls offensively, averaging 13.1 points per game. She has scored in double figures 16 times and leads UB in three-point field goal percentage (.333), assists (89) and minutes played (31.2) while also ranking seventh in the league in steals per contest (2.0). Lucas leads the MAC and ranks 30th nationally in rebounding (10.0 rpg). The Bulls are second the MAC and rank 43rd in the nation in offensive rebounds per game (14.2). UB has started four freshmen in nine straight games and has started three rookies 15 times. They are one of two teams in the MAC to have a rookie leading them in minutes played.
Toledo is 14-12 overall and 8-7 in league play after falling to Central Michigan 68-64 on Wednesday. Preseason All-MAC selection Kendall Carruthers leads the Rockets offensively, averaging 11.8 points per game while also dishing out 2.7 assists per contest. Sophomore Faith Fedd-Robinson is averaging 11.7 points per game and Patricia Anumgba is also averaging in double figures at 11.6 points per game.
The Rockets are third in the MAC and in the top 40 nationally in rebound margin (+6.9). They have outrebounded their opponents in 20 of 26 games this season and have won the glass by 10 or more 13 times. Toledo also leads the MAC in opponent rebounds, allowing just 30.2 rebounds per game. In league action, they are second in scoring defense (60.0), third in free throw percentage (.737) and fourth in offensive rebounding (12.2).
Up next, Buffalo will hit the road for the final two games of the season, beginning on Wednesday, March 4 at Northern Illinois. Tipoff from the Convocation Center is set for 7pm (EST).
