BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo women's basketball head coach Becky Burke announced the signing of JUCO transfer Makenna Shaffer to the roster for the 2024-25 season. She has three years of eligibility remaining.
Shaffer, a 6'1 guard from Greeley, Colorado, comes to Buffalo after a standout rookie season at Florida SouthWestern State, where earned First Team All-Conference and FCSAA All-State Team honors after helping the Bucs qualify for the FCSAA State Tournament. Shaffer averaged 12.0 points and 7.8 rebounds per game, playing in all 30 and starting 28 contests, as a freshman. She scored in double figures 20 times and had three 20-point efforts on the year including a 21-point, 11 rebound performance in a Citrus Conference win against Miami Dade, one of five double-doubles for her on the season.
She led the Bucs in rebounding, defensive rebounds per game (5.9) and minutes per contest (30.4) while ranking second on the team in scoring, three-pointers made (49), offensive rebounds per game (1.8) and blocks per game (0.7).
Before college, Shaffer played for Az Compass Prep in Arizona where she averaged 12 points and eight rebounds per game as a senior.
"Makenna is going to be such an exciting player here at Buffalo," said Burke. "She is extremely versatile both offensively and defensively. She can shoot the three at a very high level but is also an athletic and aggressive driver who is extremely effective when putting the ball on the floor. At 6'1 she gives us a different look on both ends of the floor than we have had the last couple years. I'm happy that she chose to be a Bull."
