BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women's soccer team (1-1) travels to Hamilton, NY for a contest against the Colgate Raiders on Thursday afternoon.
It will be the 15th overall meeting between the two programs, with the Raiders owning the 9-4-1 series advantage. The Bulls defeated the Raiders 2-0 at UB Stadium last season.
The Bulls are coming off a solid opening weekend of play as they were even in goals against in their matches against a pair of Power 5 opponents. The Bulls scored late in the second half but came up just short in a 2-1 loss to nationally ranked Pitt before going on the road and picking up the first Power 5 road win in program history with a 2-1 win at Ohio State.
It has been a balanced scoring attack as three different Bulls recorded a goal on the weekend with sophomore Katie Krohn scoring against Pitt on Thursday, Hermann Trophy watchlist selection Leah Wengender scoring the equalizer on Sunday and junior Arianna Zumpano recording the game-winner in the 84th minute to secure the victory over the Buckeyes.
Colgate returns 23 players from last year's squad that finished 3-4-2 in Patriot League play. They enter Thursday's match with a 1-0-1 overall record after defeating Canisius 4-0 on Thursday before playing to a 1-1 draw at Kent State on Sunday. The Raiders are led by sophomores Ari Bezanson and Ana Schremp who have recorded two goals each while sophomore Ellie Stokes has also contributed a goal. Junior Alli Popham leads Colgate between the pipes as she owns a 1-0-1 overall record with six saves, a .857 save percentage and 0.50 goals against average on the year.
Next up, the Bulls return to Western New York to take on crosstown rival Canisius on Thursday, August 31st at 6pm.
