Box Score

KALAMAZOO, MI – The University at Buffalo women's soccer team (4-5-4, 1-3-2 MAC) fell 1-0 at Western Michigan on Sunday afternoon at the WMU Soccer Complex.

The hosts were aggressive from the start, and it paid off early as they intercepted a UB clearing pass and Meredith Vance found Simone Sharpless who one-timed a shot into the back of the net to give WMU a 1-0 lead just 67 seconds into the contest.

The Broncos looked to add to their lead in the 23^rd minute as Kiaya Stewart broke free up the right side and fired a shot in stride, but Lexie Thompson made a great save to knock the ball out of play.

Buffalo had their first shot of the game in the 38^th minute as Mae Hunt drew a foul, took the ensuing free kick and found Maya Galko up the left side and shot but Reagan Sulaver made the save and the game remained scoreless at the half.

The Bulls had their best scoring chance of the game in the 71^st minute as Adriana Victoriano played a ball into the box to the foot of Eva Poissant who ripped a shot that was saved by Sulaver and then Poissant was there for a header off the rebound but Sulaver leapt up to knock the ball out of play.

Buffalo had another chance 10 minutes later as Tator played a ball up to Poissant who ripped a shot that was knocked out of play, but the Bulls were unable to convert on the ensuing corner kick opportunity and that would be it as they came up short.

The Broncos outshot the Bulls 12-10, including a 6-5 edge in shots on goal, while also maintaining a 7-2 advantage in corner kick opportunities. Thompson and Sulaver made five stops each on the day.

Up next, Buffalo will return home for a contest against Massachusetts on Thursday, October 15 at 6pm.
