Bulls Play to Draw with Toledo on Sunday

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women's soccer team (4-2-3, 1-0-1 MAC) played to a scoreless draw with Toledo on a beautiful afternoon at Broadview Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

It was a defensive battle early on with neither team recording a shot in the first 15 minutes. Buffalo had their first look of the half in the 26^th minute as Maddy Murphy slid a pass to Laiken Kiser who ripped a shot in stride, but Paige Dornheggen slid in to make the save. Ten minutes later, Murphy broke free up the left side and fired a shot on target but Dornheggen was there for the save.

Toledo had a pair of chances in the final minutes, but Lexie Thompson and the UB backline thwarted the attacks, and the game remained scoreless the break.

The visitors had a scoring chance five minutes into the second half as Morgan Spitler broke free and drilled a shot that sailed just wide.

Buffalo controlled possession over the final 30 minutes of play as Jayda Schoburgh and Murphy recorded a pair of shot attempts a few minutes apart and then later, Ella McDonald had her shot blocked, got her own rebound and fired again but missed left.

UB had their best chance of the game in the 73^rd minute as Maya Bright fired a shot that was blocked by a Rockets' defender and Emma Patti was there for the rebound, but she couldn't convert from in front of goal as her touch rolled left and out of play. The Bulls had another great chance in the 79^th minute as Maya Galko took a free kick and played a great ball into the box to Eva Blatz but her shot attempt sailed high and out of play and that would be it as Buffalo was not able to capitalize the rest of the way.

The Bulls outshot the Rockets 14-9 while Toledo had a 3-0 edge in corner kick opportunities and the teams tied with four shots on goal each. Thompson earned her sixth clean sheet of the season with three saves on the afternoon while Dornheggen made four stops for the Rockets.

Up next, Buffalo will welcome the Eastern Michigan Eagles to Broadview Stadium for a 1pm contest on Sunday, September 27.
