BOWLING GREEN, OHIO – The University at Buffalo women's soccer team (4-6-6, 1-4-4 MAC) fell 2-0 at Bowling Green on Saturday afternoon at Cochrane Stadium.
The Falcons were the aggressors early and often as they recorded a trio of shots in the first two minutes of play, but Lexie Thompson and the UB defense were there to thwart the attack.
The onslaught continued a couple minutes later as the hosts recorded a pair of shots 40 seconds apart, but Thompson came up big once again with a leaping save.
Bowling Green broke through in the 33rd minute as Minah Syam played a ball on target and Thompson slid out to make the stop but couldn't come up with it and Mia Ugarte was there to finish it off to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead and that would be the score at the half.
Buffalo looked to attack off the opening kick to start the second half as Maddy Murphy settled a ball and carried it to the top of the box where she cut back and fired a shot off her left foot, but Payton O'Malley leaped up to make the save.
The Falcons added to their lead in the 58th minute as Thompson took a goal kick and played it towards midfield and a Falcon won the ball in the air and played it up the field to Lizzie Bultynck who chipped a shot over the head of Thompson from the top of the box to put Bowling Green up 2-0 and that would be enough to secure the victory.
The Falcons outshot the Bulls 23-8, including an 11-2 edge in shots on goal, while also maintaining a 5-0 advantage in corner kick opportunities. Thompson made a season-high nine saves on the afternoon while O'Malley made two stops for Bowling Green.
Up next, Buffalo will travel return home to host Kent State in the final home game of the regular season at Broadview Stadium on Thursday, October 29 at 6pm.
