Bulls Play to Scoreless Draw at Lafayette

EASTON, PA – The University at Buffalo women's soccer team (3-2-2) played to a scoreless draw at Lafayette in the non-conference finale at Gummerson Grounds on Thursday night.

After a back and forth start to the game, the Bulls had a great chance in the 14^th minute as Eva Blatz slid a pass through to Stephanie Tator who ripped a shot off the crossbar and then Blatz followed with a rebound, but it sailed wide left. Tator was at it again a couple minutes later but her second attempt was saved by Catherine Apker.

Lafayette had their best chance of the half in the 38^th minute as Allie Loveless raced up field on a breakaway and ripped a shot in stride but it sailed high and out of play. Buffalo looked to answer a minute later as Jessie Bernabe played a ball up to Alexis Kochan who drilled a shot on the run but it trickled left of the net and the game remained scoreless at the break.

Buffalo looked to get going again in the 65^th minute as Adriana Victoriano played a ball to Tator who fired a shot that was saved by Apker and then a couple minutes later, Gabriella Capra settled a ball at the top of the box and found Tator who ripped a shot attempt that sailed high.

The Bulls were on the offensive again in the 72^nd minute as Bernabe found herself in space at top of the box again and let a shot fly that sailed high and then less than two minutes later, Mae Hunt intercepted a pass and fired a shot in stride that Apker saved and then Bernabe fired the rebound back on target, but a Lafayette defender made the stop.

Five minutes later, Jayda Schoburgh played a ball to Maya Bright just inside the box who drilled a shot, but Apker stretched out to make the save and knock the ball away. Less than a minute later, Ella McDonald had a shot blocked and Bright was there for the rebound but her shot saved by Apker and the game would end in a tie.

The Bulls dominated offensively but had nothing to show for it as they outshot the Leopards 16-2, including a 9-1 advantage in shots on goal, while also maintaining a 6-4 edge in corner kick opportunities.

Up next, Buffalo will open Mid-American Conference play on Thursday, September 17 at Central Michigan. Kickoff from the CMU Soccer Complex is set for at 7pm.
