Bulls Open Mid-American Conference Play at Central Michigan on Thursday

BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo women's soccer team (3-2-2) opens Mid-American Conference play at Central Michigan on Thursday at 7pm.
It is the 31st meeting between Buffalo and Central Michigan with the Chippewas owning a 12-9-9 series edge. The Bulls defeated CMU 1-0 at Broadview Stadium last season.
Buffalo played to a scoreless draw at Lafayette in the non-conference final on September 10. The Bulls dominated offensively but had nothing to show for it as they outshot the Leopards 16-2, including a 9-1 advantage in shots on goal, while also maintaining a 6-4 edge in corner kick opportunities.
The Bulls currently rank second in the MAC in shutout percentage (.571) while ranking third in save percentage (795) and goals against average (1.33) and fourth in total assists (10) and assists per game (1.43) and saves per game (5.0). Buffalo is balanced offensively with six goals coming off the feet of five different players. Two-time MAC Goalkeeper of the Year Lexie Thompson leads UB between the pipes as she leads the MAC in shutouts (4) while ranking second in total saves (29) and saves per game (4.7) and is fourth in goals against average (1.14) and save percentage (.784). The Levittown, NY native currently ranks first in program history in career goals against average (0.76), third in shutouts (25) and fourth in wins (29).
Central Michigan finished non-conference play with a 2-4-1 overall record after falling at Butler 3-0 on Sunday. The Chippewas were picked 11th in the preseason coaches poll. They return 13 players while adding 14 newcomers, including eight freshmen and six transfers, under first-year head coach James DeCosemo. CMU is balanced offensively, led by junior forward Ella Betzold who has recorded three goals and an assist while three other players have recorded a pair of goals on the season. Senior Jadia Kershaw leads the Chippewas between the pipes with a 2-4-1 overall record, 2.29 goals against average and a .652 save percentage through six contests.
