BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women's soccer team (4-7-6, 1-5-4 MAC) fell to Kent State 2-1 in their home finale at Broadview Stadium on Thursday night.

The Golden Flashes were the aggressors early, recording a pair of shots early and then they broke through in the 10^th minute, capitalizing on a UB turnover as Allison Burkey found Samantha Miller who drilled a shot over the outstretched hands of Lexie Thompson to put Kent State up 1-0.

Buffalo looked to counter a minute later as Maddy Murphy drilled a shot from the top of the box, but Leah Shaffer leapt up to punch the ball out of play.

The Bulls evened the game on a highlight reel play in the 28^th minute as Maya Galko took a free kick and curled a shot into the left side of the net to tie the game at one and that would be the score at the half.

Buffalo had a look early in the second half as a ball fell to the feet of Eva Blatz who drilled a shot from point blank range, but Shaffer was there to make a big save.

The Golden Flashes answered less than a minute later as Miller took a free kick and played a ball into the box that was redirected into the back of the net by Mia McLean Mercier to give the visitors a 2-1 lead.

Buffalo continued to fight as Laiken Kiser settled a ball in the box and ripped a shot from close range, but Shaffer was there for another save to knock the ball back out and the Bulls would be unable to convert on a trio of shot attempts in the final 15 minutes of play as the rally fell short.

The Bulls narrowly outshot the Golden Flashes 10-8 and held a 4-2 edge in shots on goal, but the visitors owned a 6-5 advantage in shots on goal. Thompson finished with four saves on the night while Shaffer also made four stops for Kent State.

Up next, Buffalo will close out the regular season at Ball State on Sunday, November 1 at 1pm.
