Women’s Basketball Inks Transfer Forward Kayla Salmons

BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo head women's basketball coach Becky Burke has announced the addition of Kayla Salmons, a 6-3 forward from Melbourne, Australia. Salmons played her freshman season at Idaho State.
Salmons played in 19 games during her first season in Pocatello, averaging 1.8 points and 0.7 rebounds per contest. She scored a season high eight points against Park (AZ), while adding four points on a perfect shooting performance against Missouri.
"Kayla brings valuable Division I experience to our team at the post position," said Burke. "She is highly effective playing with her back to the basket and welcomes physicality in the post. Kayla's basketball IQ and skill set will help us immediately and give us depth at that position, which was much needed. I am excited for Kayla to play a major role on our team and be a great ambassador for our program here at UB."
Salmons joined Idaho State after an accomplished career at Haileybury College in Australia. Salmons was a part of a State Development Program from 2017-2020. She represented Victoria in the Australian National Championship (ANC) where her team earned the Gold Medal in 2019 and the Bronze Medal in 2020. During the 2020 ANC, Salmons ranked top 10 in scoring with 10.86 points per game while shooting 62% from the field. She would go on to rank top three in rebounds per game with 8.43 per game. She was a 2x MVP for Altona Gators in U18's (2018-19) and the Best Defensive Player for the Altona Gators Youth League (2019).
She received Haileybury Senior Honors for Basketball in 2019, earned 2020 Senior House Colours, and also received the 2018 Thomas Carr College Beach Award for Outstanding Service to the Community.
