BUFFALO, NY – After a very successful season on the court, the University at Buffalo women's basketball team turned in a solid performance in the classroom as well, as two UB student-athletes earned a spot on the Academic All-MAC Team, as announced by the conference on Tuesday morning.
A total of 69 student-athletes were named to the 2022 squad.
Summer Hemphill, a graduate student in education studies with a 3.25 GPA, was honored for the first time in her career. Hemphill cemented herself as one of the best players to wear the blue and white as she eclipsed both the 1,000 career point and 1,000 career rebound marks, becoming just the second player in program history to accomplish that feat. She finished her career as the program's all-time leading rebounder with 1,153 boards. Her final campaign in Buffalo was one of her best as she was named to the All-MAC Second Team and All-Defensive Team after averaging a double-double with 13.0 points and 10.4 rebounds per game while also leading the Bulls in total rebounds (354), offensive rebounds (124) and blocks (43). The Buffalo, NY native matched a career-high with 28 points twice in UB's wins over Syracuse and Central Michigan.
A social science interdisciplinary major with a 3.20 GPA, Adebola Adeyeye also earned the recognition for the first time in her career. The Brampton, Ontario native had a solid senior campaign for the Bulls, appearing in 28 games and earning 17 starts. She set a career-high with 6.5 points per game while also averaging 6.1 rebounds per game and 16 blocks while shooting a team and career-best 56.2% from the field. She ranked second on the team with 172 total rebounds.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport.
