Bulls Close Out Non-Conference Play at St. Bonaventure on Thursday

BUFFALO, NY – Winners of three straight, the University at Buffalo women's basketball team concludes non-conference play as they travel to Big 4 foe St. Bonaventure on Thursday afternoon. The game was originally scheduled for Wednesday but was pushed back a day due to travel related issues for both teams.
The game will be streamed on ESPN+ with Chris Scheppner (play-by-play) and Jack Angelucci (color) announcing and can be heard on the radio on ESPN 1520AM or on the Varsity Network with Jack Kreuzer on the call.
This is the 33rd overall meeting between Buffalo and St. Bonaventure with the Bonnies owning a narrow 18-14 series advantage. The Bulls have won six of the past seven meetings against the Bonnies, most recently a 71-52 win at Alumni Arena on December 19, 2020.
UB battled all night long and used a big fourth quarter run to earn a hard-fought win over Bucknell on December 20. Three Bulls scored in double figures led by fifth year guard Jazmine Young who scored 16 points and fellow fifth year backcourt mates Zakiyah Winfield and Re'Shawna Stone who added 15 and 13 points, respectively. Winfield leads the team in scoring and rebounding at 14.4 points and 10.8 rebounds per game and has recorded three straight double-doubles, bringing her total to six on the season. She ranks in the top 15 in the nation in double-doubles and rebounds per game. Young has set new UB career-highs three times and is averaging 13.4 points and 2.0 assists per contest. Stone is also averaging in double figures at 11.1 points per game while adding 4.9 rebounds and 3.6 assists per contest.
The Bulls lead the MAC in rebounding defense (34.4) and rank in the top half of the conference in scoring defense (60.8), field goal defense (39.2), 3FG defense (26.8) and field goal percentage (42.5).
The St. Bonaventure Bonnies are 3-11 overall after falling to Colgate 66-52 on December 21. The Bonnies finished 12-16 overall and 4-12 in Atlantic 10 play last season. SBU returned seven players off last year's squad and welcomed six newcomers. St. Bonaventure was picked to finish last in the preseason A-10 poll. The Bonnies are one of two teams in the A-10 to play a 15-game non-conference slate. SBU is 2-3 at the Reilly Center this season. Senior forward I'yanna Lops leads the Bonnies in scoring at 11.2 ppg while adding 5.4 rpg. Maddie Dziegowski (9.4 ppg) and Nadechka Lacen (8.6 ppg) are also main contributors. Lops ranks among the nation's best rim protectors. Through 14 games this season, Lops has rejected 27 shots, ranking second in the Atlantic 10 and in the top 15 nationally. She is blocking 1.9 shots per game which puts her second in the A-10 and in the top 30 in the NCAA.
