
Bulls Open MAC Play This Weekend

BUFFALO, NY – After a strong non-conference showing, the University at Buffalo women's soccer team (6-1) opens Mid-American Conference play with a pair of games this weekend. The Bulls travel to Athens, OH for a clash with the Ohio Bobcats on Thursday before returning home to welcome Kent State to UB Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
On Thursday it will be the 26th meeting between Buffalo and Ohio with the Bulls holding a narrow 13-11-1 series edge. The Bulls have won four of the last five meetings with the Bobcats, most recently a 1-0 in the regular season finale at Chessa Field last season.
On Sunday, Buffalo and Kent State will meet for the 25th time with the Golden Flashes owning a 13-10-1 series advantage. Kent State defeated the Bulls 1-0 in the spring season opener on March 4.
Buffalo has won six straight games, including four straight road victories which is tied for the program record. The Bulls are coming off a 2-0 road win at UConn on Saturday. Graduate student Gianna Yurchak won a header on a UConn free kick in the sixth minute and go the ball quickly to Katherine Camper who then found Marcy Barberic as she got past the backline and finished to give UB an early lead and Hannah Callaghan would add an insurance goal in the 72nd minute off the assist from her sister Abbey Callaghan.
Ohio enters Thursday's match with a 4-3 overall record after falling 3-0 at Western Carolina on Sunday. Sophomore Shae Robertson has a pair of goals while six other Bobcats have found the scoresheet this season. In net, Ohio is led by senior Sam Wexell who has made 19 saves and owns a 1.14 goals against average in seven starts.
Kent State enters the weekend with a 5-3 overall record after defeating Akron 1-0 on Thursday. The Golden Flashes are led offensively by redshirt senior Cameron Shedenhelm who has recorded four goals and three assists while senior Khyla Porter has also added four goals on the year. Junior Sarah Melen has led Kent State between the pipes, compiling a 1.67 goals against average and 20 saves in eight starts.
Following weekend play, the Bulls will stay home to host Ball State on Thursday, September 30 at 7pm.
