
Women’s Basketball Places Five on Academic All-MAC Team

BUFFALO, NY – After another successful season on the court, the University at Buffalo women's basketball team continued to excel in the classroom as well, as five UB student-athletes earned a spot on the Academic All-MAC Team, as announced by the conference on Wednesday morning.
A total of 60 student-athletes were named to the 2021 squad.
Earning the recognition for the third straight season was senior Hanna Hall while junior Keowa Walters was honored for the second time and sophomores Loren Christie, Elea Gaba and Jessika Schiffer earned the recognition for the first time in their UB careers.
Hall, a psychology major with a 3.791 GPA, was honored for the third straight season. The senior guard led the Bulls' backcourt once again, starting 21 of 24 games for UB this season, averaging 6.6 points, 2.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game while shooting 33.0% from beyond the arc and a team-best 87.5% from the free throw line.
A communication major with a 3.364 GPA, Walters was placed on the squad for the second time in her career. The Toronto, Ontario native had a solid junior campaign for the Bulls, appearing in all 24 games, averaging 6.1 points, 5.7 rebounds and 0.6 blocks per game while shooting 53.2% from the field. She ranked second on the team with 137 total rebounds.
Gaba, a graphic design major with a 3.637 GPA, earned the Academic All-MAC recognition for the first time as a Bull. The sophomore had the best season of her career, averaging 15.6 minutes, 6.9 points and 3.8 rebounds while shooting 51.8% from the field.
Earning the recognition for the first time in her Buffalo career, Loren Christie is a finance major with a 3.39 GPA. Christie appeared in 15 games for the Bulls as a sophomore, averaging 3.0 points and 4.5 rebounds per game.
Schiffer, a media studies major with a 3.874 GPA, earned the Academic All-MAC recognition for the first time in her career. The Iserlohn, Germany native appeared in 22 games for the Bulls this season, averaging 4.2 points, 1.3 rebounds and 0.6 assists while shooting a team-best 34.6% from three point range.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport.
