
Bulls Continue Conference Play This Week

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women's soccer team (8-2-1, 2-1-1 MAC) continues Mid-American Conference play this week with a game at Eastern Michigan on Thursday before returning home to host Central Michigan on Sunday afternoon at UB Stadium.
On Thursday it will be the 27th meeting between Buffalo and Eastern Michigan with the Eagles holding a narrow 11-8-7 series edge. The Bulls have beaten the Eagles in three of the last five meetings. Eastern Michigan defeated UB 2-1 in the last meeting at Sciluna Field in 2019.
On Sunday, Buffalo and Central Michigan will also meet for the 27th time with the Chippewas owning a 13-7-6 series advantage. The Bulls and Chippewas played to a scoreless draw in their last meeting in 2019.
Buffalo is coming off a solid weekend in which they defeated Ball State 2-1 on Thursday for their first victory over the Cardinals since 2014, before going on the road to beat Miami (OH) 2-1 on Sunday afternoon to hand the RedHawks their first conference loss. Graduate student Marcy Barberic leads the Bulls with seven goals and two assists while Arianna Zumpano has scored three goals and Katherine Camper, Hannah Callaghan, and Gianna Yurchak have all netted a pair of goals. The Bulls lead the MAC in scoring offense (2.09), points per game (6.27), shots on goal per game (7.36), total goals (23) and assists per game (2.09).
Eastern Michigan enters Thursday's match with a 2-7-2 overall record and a 1-2-1 MAC record after defeating Northern Illinois 2-1 on Sunday. The Eagles present a balanced offensive attack as eight different players have recorded a goal this season. In net, Eastern Michigan is led by senior Chelsea Abbots who has made 49 saves, good for fourth best in the MAC, and owns a 1.54 goals against average in eight starts.
Central Michigan enters the weekend with a 6-5 overall record and a 3-2 MAC mark after defeating Akron 3-1 on Thursday. The Chippewas are led offensively by redshirt freshman Gaelle Wells who has scored three goals on the year while senior Amanda Britain and Laila Arab have also chipped in two goals each. Sophomore Allison LaPoint has led Central Michigan between the pipes, compiling a 0.87 goals against average and 51 saves in 11 starts.
Following weekend play, the Bulls will stay home and welcome Western Michigan to UB Stadium on Thursday, October 14 at 7pm. It will be Ted Lasso night at UB Stadium with free t-shirts and other show related promotional items available to fans.
