Fair Named to Dawn Staley Award Watch List

BUFFALO, NY – The accolades continue to roll in for University at Buffalo women's basketball freshman guard Dyaisha Fair as she was named to the 2020 Dawn Staley Award Mid-Season Watch List, as announced by the Phoenix Club of Philadelphia on Wednesday. Fair is the only freshman of the 15 players on the list.
Established in 2013, the honor recognizes the nation's best guard in women's NCAA Division I college basketball. Named after women's basketball legend and Hall of Famer Dawn Staley, the award is given to a player "who exemplifies the skills that Dawn possessed throughout her career: ball handling, scoring, her ability to distribute the basketball and her will to win."
This is the second straight season a member of the Bulls has been named to this watch list as former Buffalo standout Cierra Dillard was named a Dawn Staley Award finalist last season.
Fair currently ranks third in the nation in scoring at 22.5 points per game, while also averaging 5.6 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 2.6 steals per contest. The Rochester, NY native also ranks third in field goal attempts (388), 11th in three pointers made per game (3.11) and 14th in final points (428). Fair has scored in double figures in 19 straight games, surpassing the 20-point mark 13 times, while recording two double-doubles. She has also led the Bulls in scoring in 16 of their 20 games.
Four finalists will be announced in Mid-March and the winner will be announced the weekend of the Final Four. The award event will be held at the Union League Thursday, April 9.
