Women’s Basketball Signs A Pair To National Letters of Intent

BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo women's basketball head coach Felisha Legette-Jack announced the signing of Cheyenne McEvans and Sophia Öjhammar to a National Letters of Intent on Wednesday afternoon.
McEvans is a 5'10 combo guard from Southfield, Michigan, who is currently playing at Southfield A&T High School. During her junior campaign, McEvans was named First Team All-State after averaging 18.0 points, 14.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 3.0 steals per game. She helped lead the Warriors to 62 wins in her first three years with the team, including guiding A&T to the state Final Four in two of the last three years.
"We are thrilled to have Cheyenne join our Bulls family," said Legette-Jack. "She will help us on a multitude of levels. She is a great character kid who stands for all the right things and has a high academic integrity. On the court, Cheyenne has a very high IQ for the game. She can shoot the three ball, has a great pull-up jumper and her defense is relentless. We cannot wait to have her join our women's basketball program!
Legette-Jack continues to expand the Bulls international presence with the signing of Öjhammar, a 5'9" guard from Solna Sweden. Last year, Öjhammar won a gold medal at the U17 Swedish Championship and was awarded MVP honors after scoring 24 points in the championship game. She competed at the 2017 Baltic Sea Basketball Cup as part of the U16 team, spent time with the U17 national team and also trained with the U18 national team in the summer of 2018.
"We are so excited to have Sophia join our Bulls family," said Legette-Jack. "Sophia reminds me a lot of Theresa Onwuka. She is a passionate defender and a relentless driver to the basket. Sophia is humble and hungry. She had a chance to choose other universities, but felt like Buffalo and our coaching staff could help her reach her dreams of getting a degree in Biology and becoming an incredible athlete for her country in Sweden. Please help me welcome Sophia Öjhammar to our Buffalo family."
The Bulls return to the floor on Friday, November 15, when they host Columbia at Alumni Arena at 7pm. Friday will also be the unveiling of the 2018-19 MAC Championship banner.
