BUFFALO, NY - University at Buffalo women's basketball sophomore point guard Stephanie Reid was named Mid-American Conference East division Player of the Week on Monday afternoon, as announced by the league office. This marks the first time in her UB career that she has been honored with the weekly recognition.
The Bulls have been awarded MAC East Player of the Week five times this season as junior Joanna Smith has earned the award four times and Reid once.
The sophomore turned in her best week as a Bull this past week as she helped lead the Bulls to a pair of MAC victories including an upset of first-place Ohio on Saturday. Reid finished off her strong week averaging a team-best 17.5 points, 7.0 assists, 5.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals while the Bulls downed Bowling Green and Ohio in crucial MAC games. Reid played 76 of a possible 80 minutes this week including all 40 minutes in the Bulls win over Ohio.
The Australian made a big impact as the floor general in the Bulls close 55-52 home victory over Bowling Green on Wednesday as she was able to finish with a team-high 14 points, six assists, four rebounds and two steals. Reid made her impact late in the game as she was able to net the game-tying shot with under two minutes to go before sealing the win with a free throw in the final seconds.
In Saturday's upset victory over Ohio, Reid was the best player on the court for either team as she nearly recorded the program's first triple-double since 2001. The sophomore finished the game with a game-high 21 points, a career-high eight assists, seven rebounds and three steals as UB cruised to a 70-58 victory, sweeping the season series with the Bobcats. Reid netted 20+ points for the third time this season as the Bulls were able to collect their third straight win.
On the year, Reid is averaging 10.6 points, 4.8 assists, 3.6 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game while leading the Bulls in scoring seven times and assists 21 times this season. With her eight assists on Saturday, Reid now ranks 10th in program history in assists in a single season with 130.
Reid and the Bulls return to the hardwood on Wednesday night as they travel to take on the Akron Zips at Rhodes Arena at 8:00 pm. The Bulls are currently in the eight-seed for the upcoming MAC Tournament.
