
Big 4 Selects UB's Sharkey Player of the Week

BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo, State University of New York women's basketball senior Kristen Sharkey was named Big 4 Player of the Week Monday. It is the fourth time this season she has received this award.
Sharkey again paced the Bulls averaging 17.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game in a 1-1 week for the Bulls. She shot 48.1 percent (13-of-27) from the floor and 87.5 percent (7-of-8) from the line. Sharkey led all scorers Wednesday at Akron with a 22-point performance on 7-for-12 shooting. On Saturday, she led the Bulls to a 10-point victory at MAC West-leading Western Michigan with a game-best 13 points, her 11th time leading the Bulls in scoring this season. She chipped in 11 boards for her sixth double-double of the season and 21st of her career. Sharkey improved her career point total to 1,156 to move her into ninth all-time at UB.
Through 12 league games, Sharkey ranks among the Mid-American Conference top five in four categories: second in offensive rebounds (4.1), third in scoring (17.7) and rebounding (9.2), and fourth in minutes played (35.3).
UB players have been honored with Big 4 Player of the Week on six occasions this season. Sharkey also earned the recognition on Jan. 5, Jan. 19 and Jan. 26, while sophomore Alexus Malone recorded nods on Nov. 24 and Dec. 22.
The Bulls return home to Alumni Arena for back-to-back games. UB hosts Kent State Wednesday at 7 pm and Miami (OH) Saturday at 2 pm.
