
UB's Sharkey Claims Big 4 Hoops Recognition For Third Time

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo, State University of New York women's basketball team's Kristen Sharkey was named Big 4 Player of the Week announced Monday. A senior, she averaged 19.5 points per game in a 1-1 week for the Bulls.
Sharkey, who leads the team in scoring, added 7.5 rebounds per outing to go with four steals, three blocks and two assists while shooting .378 from the floor (14-for-37). She scored a Bull-best 21 points with a career-high four threes at Toledo on Wednesday. Sharkey led UB for the sixth time this season with an 18-point performance in a come-from-behind victory Saturday against Northern Illinois. Her offensive output moved her into 18th all-time at UB with 1,053 career points. She chipped in eight boards and three blocks at UT and added seven rebounds against the Huskies.
Through seven league games, Sharkey ranks among the Mid-American Conference top 10 in eight categories: third in offensive rebounds (3.2), fourth in minutes played (33.6), sixth in free throw percentage (.789) and blocks (1.1), seventh in overall rebounds (8.0), eighth in steals (1.8) and 10th in scoring (13.5) and defensive rebounds (4.8).
UB players have been honored with Big 4 Player of the Week on five occasions this season. Sharkey also earned the recognition on Jan. 5 and Jan. 19, while sophomore Alexus Malone recorded nods on Nov. 24 and Dec. 22.
The Bulls, who have a mid-week MAC bye, will return to the hardwood on Saturday, Jan. 31 with a 2:30 pm tip at Eastern Michigan.
