BUFFALO, NY - After posting a total team performance in a 62-46 win over Northern Illinois on Sunday, the women's basketball team will take on Eastern Michigan (12-7, 4-2 MAC) Wednesday evening in a Mid-American Conference crossover game. Tip off is scheduled for 7 pm.
In its last game, Buffalo (6-14, 1-5 MAC) held the host Northern Illinois Huskies to 27.3% shooting as the Bulls defeated NIU and ended a six-game losing skid and picked up its first conference win of the year. Brittney Hedderson poured in almost half of the team's total, with a game-high 29 points, and Beth Christensen pulled down a career-high 16 rebounds. Buffalo will look to improve upon its 3-3 record at Alumni Arena, but must do so against the MAC West leader.
It will be a matchup of two of the top scorers in the conference, as Hedderson will be matched by Eastern Michigan's Tavelyn James. As the team's senior leader, James averages 22.7 points per game and is coming off a summer spent with the United States national team. She has attempted 159 more shots than any other Eagle player and has made 39 more free throws. Natachia Watkins also averages in double figures with 11.3 points, and Paige Redditt and Olivia Fouty put up big numbers down low, combining to post 19.4 points and 16.4 rebounds per game.
In the last game out between the two squads, the Bulls snapped Eastern Michigan's seven-game win streak in the series last season thanks to a 70-68 win in Ypsilanti. Kourtney Brown had 26 points and 13 rebounds to hold off a frantic EMU comeback after it had trailed by as much as 16 to UB. Tickets are still available for tomorrow night's game, and fans who cannot make it to the game can tune in to 1340 AM WLVL or listen on wlvl.com.
