Bulls Conclude Road Swing With Wednesday Matinee

MT. PLEASANT, MI – The University at Buffalo women's basketball team will conclude a stretch of five of its first seven conference games on the road on Wednesday afternoon with a Kid's Day game at Central Michigan. It is expected to be a capacity crowd at McGuirk Arena for the game against the Chippewas.
The Bulls (9-10, 2-4 MAC) are coming off a 14-point loss at Toledo on Saturday afternoon in its first MAC West game of the season. UB will be wrapping up a streak of five of seven MAC games away from home and eight of its last 10 overall. Buffalo is led by Kourtney Brown, who enters the game averaging 21.6 points per game and 12.1 rebounds per contest. In the latest national rankings Brown is fourth in rebounding, 10th in scoring, seventh in field goal percentage and 18th in blocked shots. Her 12 double-doubles on the season are tied for fourth. Also amongst the national leaders is fellow senior Ashley Zuber, who leads the MAC and is 10th in the country in assists at 6.3 per game.
The game against Toledo also marked a season best for sophomore Nicki Hopkins, who picked up her third start of the season and played a career-high 37 minutes. Hopkins tied her career high with 15 points on five made three pointers and is now third in the MAC in three point field goal percentage in conference games only.
Central Michigan (12-6, 4-2 MAC) enters the game off a tough road loss at Bowling Green this past Saturday. The Chippewas have the fifth highest scoring attack in the nation, averaging 82.8 points per game. They are led by Kaihla Szunko, who like Brown, averages a double-double on the season at 16.1 points per game and 11.1 rebounds per contest, which is 11th in the nation. Shonda Long averages 16.0 points per contest for the Chippewas, while Brandie Baker adds 13.7 points per game.
Due to final construction on the newly renovated McGuirk Arena, the Chippewas have played just five home games to date and are 4-1 in those games, with their only loss coming to Pittsburgh.
As mentioned the game will have special 12:00 tip off for Kid's Day. Central Michigan will also be running a Hoops For Hunger promo as fans and attending schools are asked to participate in a food drive to help feed the hungry. Schools will receive a plaque for participating and the school that collects the largest donation will receive a trophy. The goal is to raise one million pounds of food, enough for nearly 700,000 meals. All donations will be given to the Eastern Michigan Food Bank, which provides food to over 53,000 individuals each week through 400 partner agencies.
The game will air live on WLVL 1340 AM in Buffalo and will stream live on wlvl.com with the pregame show beginning at 11:40 am. UB will return home on Saturday afternoon for a doubleheader with the UB men's team.
