Bulls Open MAC Play with Emphatic Win Over Western Michigan

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo men's tennis team picked up right where they left off, defeating Western Michigan 6-1 at Miller Tennis Center on Friday afternoon in a rematch of last year's Mid-American Conference championship match.

After trailing 3-1 in both first and third doubles, the Bulls began to battle back as Faiz Nasyam and Minjae Kim won 6-4 at third and Theodoros Mitsakos and Clement Mainguy rallied to a thrilling 7-6 victory at the first position to secure the doubles point for UB.

The Bulls carried that momentum into singles action as Mainguy won 6-3, 6-2 win at second singles, Emiliano Jorquera rolled to a 6-2, 6-2 win at fifth singles and then Nasyam clinched the match for UB with a 6-3, 6-3 victory at six singles. Junior Onder Balci added to the UB lead with a 6-1, 7-6 win at third singles and Kim rounded out the scoring with a 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 win at fourth singles.

Up next, Buffalo will close out the weekend against Ball State on Sunday at 1pm.
