BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo men's tennis team (9-4, 3-0 MAC) battled from start to finish as they rallied to a 4-3 victory over Toledo in a thriller at Miller Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon.
Trailing 1-0 after doubles action, senior Faiz Nasyam got UB on the board with a 6-3, 6-0 win at six singles and Minjae Kim gave the Bulls a 2-1 lead with a 6-4, 6-4 victory at fourth singles. The Rockets regained the lead with wins at second and fifth singles to go up 3-2.
Junior Onder Balci rallied to a 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 win at third singles to even the match before Theodoros Mitsakos came up clutch for the Bulls, overcoming a dropped first set and a 3-1 deficit in the third set, to win 4-6, 6-2, 7-5 to clinch the match.
"This was an awesome collegiate tennis match," said head coach Lee Nickell. "We didn't start well in singles and got into a hole, but our fight and determination came through. I am thoroughly proud of our team and we can't wait to play Northern Illinois next week. Go Bulls!"
Up next, Buffalo will hit the road for four matches, beginning on Thursday, March 19 at Northern Illinois.
