COLUMBUS, Ohio - The University at Buffalo men's tennis team saw their historic 2025-26 season come to an end with a 4-0 loss to #3 Ohio State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at the Auer Tennis Complex on Friday afternoon.
The Buckeyes took the doubles point with wins at first and third doubles to go up 1-0 in the match. Juniors Onder Balci and Michael Malkin battled back from 4-1 down to tie their match at 4-4 at second doubles when play was stopped.
Senior Theodoros Mitsakos battled throughout his first set, taking OSU's Michael Kim, ranked #11 by ITA, to a tiebreak where he ultimately came up short. The hosts then secured the victory with wins at fourth, fifth and third singles, respectively.
Today was the final match one for UB's four seniors who will go down as one of the winningest classes in program history, going out with a pair of Mid-American Conference regular season and tournament championships. Mitsakos finishes his career ranked in the top 10 all-time in career singles and doubles victories. Mainguy, the 2026 MAC Tournament Most Outstanding Player, Emiliano Jorquera and Faiz Nasyam made the most of their two seasons in Buffalo, all recording two straight seasons with double-digit singles and doubles win totals.
As a team, the Bulls finished the year with an 18-6 overall record.
"Coach Miller, Coach Kirkley and I want to express our heartfelt gratitude to our graduating seniors," said head coach Lee Nickell. "These four young men have come in and rewritten history while also having a profound effect on me and our coaching staff. We couldn't have asked for a more mature, hardworking and caring group than this team. Our newcomers came in and adapted so well and we believe we can continue the momentum and expect to compete for another MC title next year. Go Bulls!"
