
Bulls Compete at ITA Regionals

CAMBRIDGE, MA – The University at Buffalo men's tennis team competed at the ITA Regional championships this weekend, hosted by Harvard. The Bulls turned in several solid performances, highlighted by Connor Doig and Minjae Kim who advanced to the Round of 16 in the doubles draw.
The Bulls had a trio competing in the qualifying draw on Wednesday, where Kim picked up a pair of wins, defeating Brown's Cole Oberg 6-4, 7-5 and Yale's Varun Verma 7-5. Mathis Salvestre also advanced out of the qualifying draw, beating Dartmouth's Kunanan Pantaratorn 6-2, 6-3 and Fairfield's Rodrigo Garza 6-2, 6-2.
Moving into the main draw of singles action, Salvestre battled to a 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 victory over Brown's Ivan Sodan before falling to Dartmouth's Kornel Halmos in three sets in the round of 32.
In the consolation draw, Onder Balci defeated Colgate's Wittman Bulger 6-2, 6-2.
In doubles action, Doig and Kim opened play with a hard-fought 8-7(6) victory over Harvard's Evan Sharygin and Noah Gilligan before taking down Dartmouth's Adrian Treacy and Malhar Patel 8-4 to advance to the Round of 16 where they fell to Cornell's Rushil Khosla and Rethin Pranav Senthil Kumar 8-4.
Also in doubles action, Salvestre and Miko Lapalme defeated Stonehill's Javier Gutierrez Arreaga and Guillermo Alfonso Bennaton 8-5 before falling to Brown 8-4 in the round of 32.
Up next, the Bulls will compete at the ITA New England Regionals, hosted by Harvard, October 8-12.
