
Bulls Clinch MAC Tournament Berth with 5-2 Win Over Northern Illinois on Thursday

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo men's tennis team (12-6, 6-2) turned in a solid performance from start to finish in a big 5-2 win over Northern Illinois on Thursday afternoon.
With the win, the Bulls have officially clinched a spot in the 2026 Mid-American Conference Tournament and currently sit in a tie for first place in the MAC standings with two matches remaining in the regular season.
The Bulls got off to a strong start as Theodoros Mitsakos and Clement Mainguy were dominant in a 6-1 win at first doubles and Onder Balci and Michael Malkin followed with a 6-4 victory at the second position to clinch the doubles point for UB.
The Huskies evened the match with a win at first singles, but it was all Buffalo from there as Emiliano Jorquera won 6-4, 6-0 at fifth singles and Mainguy rolled to a 6-2, 6-3 victory at third singles before Faiz Nasyam clinched the match for the Bulls with a 7-5, 6-2 win at six singles. Junior Minjae Kim rounded out the scoring for UB with a hard-fought 6-1, 7-6 victory at the fourth position.
Up next, Buffalo will close out the weekend on Saturday as they host UIC on Senior Day at 1pm.
