BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo men's tennis team continues Mid-American Conference play this week, hosting Northern Illinois and UIC in the final homestand of the regular season.
The Bulls will host the Huskies on Thursday at 1pm and the Flames for Senior Day at 1pm on Saturday. Fans will receive free Chick-fil-A (while supplies last) at Saturday's match.
UB is coming off a split last week in which they dropped a close contest at Western Michigan, before bouncing back with a 4-3 win at Ball State.
The Bulls are balanced with five players recording double digit win totals in singles play this season. Senior Faiz Nasyam and junior Minjae Kim lead the team with 16 wins and senior Onder Balci sit just behind them with 15 victories. Senior Theodoros Mitsakos has notched 13 wins, six of them from the No. 1 position, and fellow senior Emiliano Jorquera has 11. In doubles action, Mitsakos and Mainguy have paced the Bulls with 11 wins and have won MAC Doubles Team of the Week honors a league-best four times. Jorquera and Nasyam have also reached double-digits as a duo with 10 wins.
Northern Illinois (15-5, 5-1 MAC) currently sits atop the MAC standings. The lone loss for NIU came at Ball State on March 14, but the Huskies have rallied, winning their last three league contests. Four Huskies have reached double-digit singles wins in dual matches so far this season. Iker Arrastia leads the team with 15, followed by Nikola Puntaric with 14 and Federico Scotuzzi with 12. 12 of Arrastia's 15 wins have come at the No. 1 position. Both Arrastia and Scotuzzi are on four-plus match win streaks.
UIC (6-10, 0-6) sits in last place with an 0-6 MAC mark. Eldin Nokic leads the Flames with eight dual victories while two players have recorded seven wins on the season.
Up next, Buffalo will close out the regular season at Toledo on Saturday, April 11 at 1pm.
