BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women's soccer team (5-2-1, 1-0 MAC) dominated from start to finish in a 3-0 win over Miami (OH) at UB Stadium on Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Bulls improved to 1-1 in league play.
Junior Laiken Kiser recorded her second multi-goal of the season and Ashley Reyes added an insurance goal late in the game as the Bulls have now recorded three or more goals in three contests this season.
The Bulls looked to attack early as Carolyn Hinkle found space and drilled a shot that sailed high and out of play. Miami (OH) countered with a trio of shot attempts, but the UB backline thwarted the attack.
UB got on the board in the 20th minute as Sarah Woods made a great run up the right side and played a perfect ball into the box to the foot of Jasmine Guerber who one-timed a shot that was saved by Dominique Popa but Kiser was there for the rebound, firing a shot into the back of the net, to give the Bulls a 1-0 lead.
Miami had a scoring opportunity in the 39th minute on a well-executed throw in as Caroline Palmer flicked a shot on target, but Lexie Thompson was there for the save, and the Bulls maintained a one goal lead at the half.
UB was back on the attack early in the second half as Kiser made a run up right side and fired a shot back across the box that sailed high and wide. Miami countered with a corner kick opportunity but Thompson knocked the ball away.
Buffalo found set piece magic in the 60th minute, as Woods put a ball into the box that got knocked around and then Kiser got her foot on it for her second goal of the afternoon to put UB up 2-0.
Things got a bit chippy later in the half, but the Bulls played through it as Reyes went to work before getting fouled in the box and she converted on the ensuing penalty kick goal to give UB a 3-0 lead and that would be enough to secure the victory.
Buffalo outshot Miami (OH) 12-9 on the day, including a 6-2 advantage in shots on goal and a 4-2 edge in corner kick opportunities. Thompson made two saves while Popa made three stops for the RedHawks.
Up next, Buffalo closes out the homestand on Thursday, September 25 as they host the Ball State Cardinals under the lights at UB Stadium at 7pm.
