Bulls Open Fall Season with Doubleheader Sweep

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women's tennis team opened the 2025 fall campaign with a pair of victories, sweeping St. Bonaventure 7-0 before defeating Niagara 6-1 at the UB Tennis Courts on Friday.
In the first match of the day, the Bulls swept the doubles point as Deanne and Sarah Hartel cruised to a 6-1 win at third doubles, Liv Roestel and Blanca Berges won 6-2 at the second position and Esmee Andresen and Maria Glowacka followed with a 6-3 win at third.
The Bulls then swept singles action as Julia Laspro rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 victory at fifth singles and Sofia Zagumennova picked up her first collegiate win with a 6-1, 6-0 win at the fourth position. Junior Sarah Hartel won 6-1, 6-2 at third singles and Andresen battled back from a dropped second set to win 7-5, 3-6, 10-8.
In the night match against Niagara, the Bulls once again swept the doubles point as Andresen and Glowacka won 6-2 at first doubles, Hartel and Choo rolled once again to a 6-1 victory at third doubles and Roestel and Berges picked up a 6-2 win at the second position.
UB continued to dominate in singles action as Berges blanked her opponent, 6-0, 6-0, at sixth singles. Glowacka picked up a 6-4, 6-1 win at second singles and Laspro followed with a 6-2, 6-4 win at the fifth position. Hartel picked up her second win of the night with a 6-3, 6-2 win at third singles and Zugumennova rounded out the night winning a three-set thriller, 7-5, 3-6, 11-9.
Buffalo returns to action next weekend at the Navy Invitational.
