OXFORD, Ohio – The University at Buffalo women's tennis team saw its season come to an end with a 4-1 loss to Toledo in the semifinals of the Mid-American Conference Tournament at the Miami Tennis Courts on Saturday afternoon.
The Bulls started the match strong as Sarah Hartel and Julia Laspro cruised to a 6-0 win at third doubles and Blanca Berges and Liv Roestel rallied for a thrilling 7-5 win at the second position to clinch the doubles point and put UB up 1-0.
It would be all Rockets from there though, as the Rockets took all six first sets and then picked up wins at four, six and fifth singles to take a 3-1 lead. Sophomore Maria Glowacka and Laspro battled back from a dropped first set to force a third set and graduate student Esmee Andresen, playing in her final match in the blue and white, was up a break, 6-5, in the second set, but the rally fell short as Toledo clinched the match at second singles.
Buffalo finished the season with a 19-7 overall record. The Bulls have now won 19+ matches in three of the last four seasons.
