BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo women's soccer team (3-1-1) welcomes Mercyhurst to UB Stadium for the non-conference finale on Thursday at 7pm.
It is the fourth overall meeting between Buffalo and Mercyhurst, with the last meeting between the two teams ending in a 1-1 draw on October 24, 1990.
Buffalo defeated Niagara 2-0 at Niagara Field on Thursday night. Junior Laiken Kiser had a banner night, recording the first multi-goal game of her career. She is the second Bull this season to record two or more goals in a game. Buffalo outshot the Purple Eagles 11-5, including a 7-2 edge in shots on goal, while also maintaining an 11-3 advantage in corner kick opportunities. Junior Lexie Thompson made two saves on the night for her third shutout of the season.
Graduate student defender Frederique St.-Jean was named MAC Defensive Player of the Week and Thompson earned Goalkeeper of the Week honors for their performances in the win at Niagara. The Bulls have now received weekly recognition four times this season.
Mercyhurst is 0-6-1 after falling at Lipscomb 6-0 on Sunday. This is their second season at the Division I level as a member of the Northeast Conference and the first season under head coach Dale White. The Lakers have a young core of players as they return just four student-athletes who started in 10 or more games a season ago. Mercyhurst is balanced offensively with five different players recording a goal this season. Rylee Kumer and Adri Lika have split time between the pipes, combining for 41 saves on the season.
Up next, Buffalo will have a week off before opening Mid-American Conference play on Thursday, September 18 at Eastern Michigan.
