BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo women's basketball head coach Kristen Sharkey has announced the addition of Ella Unger to staff for the 2025-26 season. Unger will serve as the program's Chief of Staff, where she will serve as a key advisor and strategic partner to Coach Sharkey, supporting all aspects of program operations, internal coordination and external engagement.
Unger will oversee team managers, interns and student staff, facilitate communication between staff, student-athletes and internal departments, collaborate with Athletics and University partners to enhance student-athlete experience as well as lead community service initiatives and have a hand in Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) and revenue generating efforts, among other responsibilities.
"We're proud to welcome Ella as our new Chief of Staff," said Sharkey. "She has a tireless work ethic and a deep understanding of the vision we have for UB women's basketball. Ella is committed to growing in this position, building relationships and helping us move this program forward. I was once a young hungry coach starving for an opportunity and I am excited to be a part of this journey with her. She gets it and I am honored to add her to the amazing staff we have put together."
Unger has been with the women's basketball program for two seasons, most recently serving as Head Manager during the 2024-25 season that saw the Bulls record a program-record 30 wins, culminating in a WNIT Championship.
A native of Coal Mountain, Georgia, Unger is currently pursuing a degree psychology with a minor in coaching.
