BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women's soccer team, No. 25 in the latest Top Drawer Soccer rankings and No. 6 in the United Soccer Coaches Midwest Region poll, travels to Central New York to take on the Cornell Big Red at Berman Field on Thursday at 7pm.
The game will be streamed on ESPN+ with Henry Geller (play-by-play) and Nick Krackeler (color) announcing.
It is the 12th all-time meeting between Buffalo and Cornell with the Bulls owning a narrow 4-3-4 series advantage. The teams played to a 1-1 draw at UB Stadium a year ago.
The Bulls made a statement with a historic 2-1 win over No. 7 Pitt at Ambrose Urbanic Field on August 22. It was UB's first-ever win over a top 10 program and is the third win over a Power 5 opponent in the Shawn Burke era, including two in a row on the road. It was also Buffalo's first win over Pitt since 1996. Kaya Schultz scored in the 10th minute and then later assisted on the game-winning goal, scored by Jasmine Guerber in the 58th minute. Sophomore Lexie Thompson turned in a phenomenal performance, making a career-high nine saves in the win.
Cornell played to a 1-1 draw at Colgate in their regular season opener on Sunday. The Big Red are riding a 12-match unbeaten streak against non-conference opponents that dates back to the 2022 season. Cornell, picked to finish eighth in the Ivy League preseason poll, return 15 letterwinners, including three of its top five goal scorers, from a squad that went 4-5-6 a year ago. They scored 21 goals last season, the most since they scored 22 during the 2014 campaign. A total of 17 states are represented on their roster this season.
Up next, Buffalo will return to UB Stadium for a two-game homestand beginning on Wednesday, September 4 as they host crosstown rival Canisius at 7pm.
