BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women's soccer team (10-1-6, 5-1-4 MAC) played to a 1-1 draw at Miami (OH) on Sunday afternoon. With the result, the Bulls clinched a spot in the 2024 Mid-American Conference Tournament.
The Bulls currently sit in second place in the standings with one game remaining in the regular season.
Buffalo took the first shot of the game in the 10th minute as Jasmine Guerber broke free and ripped a shot on target, but Dominique Popa made a great save.
The RedHawks then got going in their final third as they recorded four shot attempts in two minutes, but the UB defense stood tall to thwart the attack.
The Bulls broke through in the 38th minute as Carolyn Hinkle dropped a pass back to Arianna Zumpano who drilled a shot into the bottom right corner of the net to put UB up 1-0 at the half.
Miami was aggressive out of the locker room, as they recorded a shot just one minute into the second half, but Lexie Thompson was there for the save. Thompson was tested again just over 10 minutes later, but once again she came up with a stop.
The hosts were rewarded for their offensive pressure in the 77th minute as they drew a foul in the box and converted on the ensuing penalty kick to tie the game at one and that would be the final as the Bulls were able to record just one shot attempt over the final 20 minutes of play.
Miami (OH) outshot the Bulls 14-6 on the day, including a 4-3 edge in shots on goal and an 8-2 advantage in corner kick opportunities. Thompson made three saves while Popa made two stops for the RedHawks.
Up next, Buffalo will close out the regular season at Central Michigan on Thursday, October 31 at 3pm.
