Bulls Travel to Central Michigan for Regular Season Finale

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women's soccer team (10-1-6, 5-1-4 MAC) travels to Mount Pleasant to take on the Central Michigan Chippewas in the regular season finale on Thursday at 3pm. The Bulls currently sit in second place in the standings.
It will be the 31st meeting between Buffalo and Central Michigan the Chippewas owning a 14-9-7 series edge. The teams played to a draw at the CMU Soccer Complex last season.
Buffalo played to a 1-1 draw at Miami (OH) on Sunday afternoon. With the result, the Bulls clinched a spot in the 2024 Mid-American Conference Tournament. The Bulls scored first in the 38th minute as Arianna Zumpano drilled a shot into the back of the net but the hosts took advantage of a costly UB foul in the box and converted the ensuing penalty kick to earn the draw. Miami (OH) outshot the Bulls 14-6 on the day, including a 4-3 edge in shots on goal and an 8-2 advantage in corner kick opportunities.
The Bulls are balanced offensively, with 25 goals scored off the feet of 12 different players, led by senior forward Jasmine Guerber who has five goals while Arianna Zumpano has come alive in league play, scoring four goals. Sophomore Lexie Thompson has led the Bulls between the pipes, compiling a 10-1-6 overall record while recording 10 shutouts, a .47 goals against average and a .881 save percentage. Thompson leads the MAC and ranks in the top 10 nationally in those three categories.
As a team, the Bulls are one of the best defensive teams in the MAC as they lead the league and rank in the top 20 nationally in goals against average (.47) save percentage (.886) and shutout percentage (.588). They also rank in the top four in the league in corner kicks per game (4.9), shots per game (13.6), shots on goal per game (6.1) and goal differential (17).
Central Michigan is 5-8-4 overall and 3-4-3 in league action after falling to Ohio 3-0 on Sunday. Graduate student midfielder Claudia Muessig and junior forward Lauren Walker leads the Chippewas offensively with five goals each while three other players have recorded a pair of goals on the year. Between the pipes, CMU is led by redshirt senior Allison LaPoint who is 5-8-4 overall with 93 saves, an .795 save percentage and a 1.42 goals against average in 17 starts.
