Blatz, Thompson Named MAC Players of the Week

BUFFALO, NY - The Mid-American Conference announced its weekly soccer awards on Tuesday afternoon, and the Bulls were well represented as senior Eva Blatz was named Defensive Player of the Week and fellow senior Lexie Thompson earned Goalkeeper of the Week honors.
Blatz was a major factor on both ends of the field as she scored a goal and added an assist while helping the Bulls earn two straight shutout victories to open the season. On Thursday, she scored the game-winning goal off a corner kick to lead UB to a 2-0 win over Niagara, and she followed that up with an assist in a 2-0 road win at Mercyhurst on Sunday. The Bulls allowed eight total shots, and just three shots on goal, across the two contests.
Thompson is picking up right where she left off as she recorded back-to-back shutouts to open the season. On Thursday against Niagara, Thompson made a highlight-reel leaping save to preserve the shutout and she followed that up with a pair of saves in the road win at Mercyhurst.
The Bulls travel to Arizona for a pair of matches this week, beginning on Thursday, August 20 at Grand Canyon. Kickoff at GCU Stadium is set for 10pm (EST).
