Bulls Travel to Northern Illinois, Host Bowling Green This Week

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women's soccer team (5-3-5, 2-2-2 MAC) continues Mid-American Conference play this week with a game at Northern Illinois on Thursday before returning home to welcome Bowling Green to UB Stadium on Senior Day on Sunday afternoon.
On Thursday, Buffalo and Northern Illinois will meet for the 26th time with the Bulls owning a 12-9-4 series edge. The Bulls have won three of the past four meetings with the Huskies, most recently a 1-0 victory at UB Stadium last season.
On Sunday, it will be the 31st meeting between Buffalo and Bowling Green with the Falcons owning an 18-10-2 advantage. The Bulls and Falcons played to a scoreless draw in their last meeting a season ago.
Last week, the Bulls played to a 2-2 draw at Central Michigan before falling to Northern Illinios on Sunday at UB Stadium. Sophomore Katie Krohn gave the Bulls an early lead on Thursday, scoring in the third minute, and Arianna Zumpano recorded the equalizer in the 84th minute to preserve the draw.
Krohn leads the MAC with 11 goals on the year while also leading the league and ranking in the top 20 in the nation in goals per game (0.85), total points (24), points per game (1.85). She also ranks in the top three in the league in total shots (39) and shots per game (3.0). Fifth year Leah Wengender has three goals and five assists while Zumpano has recorded two goals. Senior Rebecca Winslow leads the Bulls between the pipes, compiling a 1-2-3 overall record with two shutouts. She has made 12 saves while recording a .714 save percentage and .95 goals against average.
Northern Illinois enters Thursday's match with a 5-5-3 overall record and a 3-2-1 mark in league play and are on a three-game win and shutout streak after defeating Eastern Michigan and Miami (OH) last week. The Huskies are balanced offensively as 10 different players have recorded a goal this season, led by Lea Gruennagel, Sahara Zingano and Isabel Struble who have recorded two goals each. In net, Northern Illinois is led by redshirt senior Sadie McGill who has made 37 saves and owns a 0.755 save percentage and a 0.94 goals against average in 13 starts.
Bowling Green is on a four-game win streak at 7-4-1 overall and 5-0-1 in league play after defeating Miami (OH) and Eastern Michigan, both by a score of 3-2, last week. Sophomore forward Bryann Gardner and senior forward Ellie Pool lead the Falcons offensively with four goals apiece while six other players have recorded at least one goal on the year. Lili Berg and Madison Vukas have split time between the Pipes for Bowling Green, combining for 50 saves, a .746 save percentage and a 1.42 goals against average across 12 games.
Following weekend play, the Bulls will welcome Toledo to UB Stadium for a showdown under the lights on Thursday, October 19 at 6pm.
