BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women's soccer team (3-1-0) continues non-conference play this week with a pair of games as the Bulls travel across town for a clash with Canisius on Thursday night before returning home to host Duquesne on Sunday afternoon.
On Thursday it will be the 39th all-time meeting between Buffalo and Canisius with the Bulls holding a 24-11-3 series edge. The Bulls defeated the Golden Griffins 2-1 at UB Stadium on September 6, 2018.
On Sunday, Buffalo and Duquesne will meet for the ninth time with the Bulls owning a narrow 3-2-3 series advantage. The Bulls and Dukes last faced each other in 2014 when the squads played to a double overtime scoreless draw.
Winners of three straight, Buffalo will look to continue their momentum after defeating Binghamton 1-0 on Sunday night. Graduate student Marcy Barberic scored the game-winner in the 20th minute off the assist from Alya Ruken and senior Emily Kelly picked up her first shutout of the season as the UB defense secured the first clean sheet of the season.
Canisius enters Thursday's match with a 0-4-2 overall record after falling 3-0 at Ohio on Sunday. Junior Jen Romero has the lone goal of the year for the Golden Griffins. In net, Canisius has relied on freshman Jordan Spencer who has made nine saves on the year.
Duquesne enters the weekend with a 2-2-1 overall record after falling to Niagara 2-1 on Thursday. The Dukes are led by Emma Bundy who has scored three goals on 10 shots this season. Karley Steinher and Jaimi Araujo have also added a pair of goals. Junior Megan Virgin has led Duquesne between the pipes, compiling a 1-2-1 record with a 1.89 goals against average and 20 saves in four starts.
