BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women's soccer team (6-2-1) continues MAC play with a pair of games this weekend. The Bulls welcome Ball State to UB Stadium for a showdown under the lights at 7pm on Thursday before traveling to Oxford, OH for a tilt against the Miami (OH) RedHawks on Sunday at 1pm.
On Thursday it will be the 22nd meeting between Buffalo and Ball State with the Cardinals holding a narrow 11-8-2 series edge. The two teams played an overtime thriller in their last meeting at UB Stadium in 2019 with Ball State coming away with the 3-2 victory.
On Sunday, Buffalo and Miami (OH) will meet for the 26th time with the RedHawks owning a 16-7-2 series advantage. The Bulls swept the series with the RedHawks last spring and have won four of the past five meetings between the two teams.
Buffalo is coming off a double overtime scoreless draw on Sunday. Senior Emily Kelly tied a career-high with 11 saves as she and the Bulls recorded their fifth clean sheet of the season. Graduate student Marcy Barberic leads the Bulls with seven goals and two assists while Katherine Camper, Arianna Zumpano, Hannah Callaghan, and Gianna Yurchak have all netted a pair of goals. The Bulls lead the MAC in scoring offense (2.11), points per game (6.22), shots on goal per game (7.56), total goals (19) and assists per game (2.0).
Ball State enters Thursday's match with a 3-4-1 overall record and a 1-0-1 MAC record after picking up a 2-1 road win at Central Michigan on Sunday. Senior Chelcy Ralph leads the Cardinals offensively with three goals on the year while redshirt senior Nicky Potts has added a pair of goals. In net, Ball State is led by senior Alex DeRuvo who has made 22 saves and owns a 1.74 goals against average in eight starts.
Miami (OH) enters the weekend with a 6-2-3 overall record and a 3-0 MAC mark after defeating Akron 3-0 on Thursday night. The RedHawks are led offensively by Julia Hoffmann who has scored four goals this season while Kristina DeMarco and Kakenna Morrison have scored three goals each on the season. Senior Izzie Vaccari has led Miami between the pipes, compiling a 0.68 goals against average and 31 saves in 11 starts.
Following weekend play, the Bulls will travel to Ypsilanti, MI on Thursday, October 7 for a clash with the Eastern Michigan Eagles. Kickoff is set for 4pm.
