
Bulls Travel to Bowling Green for MAC Semifinal Showdown

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women's soccer team will travel to Bowling Green, Ohio for a showdown the defending MAC champion Bowling Green Falcons on Thursday at 4pm at Cochrane Stadium in the first of two semifinal matches. The first MAC semifinal matchup will feature the No. 4 seeded Bulls and the No. 1 seeded Falcons, while No. 2 seed Ohio and No. 3 seed Kent State will face off in the second semifinal match.
It will be the 29th meeting between Buffalo and Bowling Green with the Falcons holding a 17-10-1 series advantage but the Bulls have won the last two meetings, including a 1-0 win at Cochrane Stadium just two weeks ago.
Buffalo enters Thursday's semifinal match against the Falcons with an overall record of 13-3-3 and a MAC mark of 6-2-3. The Bulls advanced to their second MAC semifinal in the last three years as UB defeated #5 Central Michigan 2-1 in double overtime on Sunday afternoon. The Bulls have been balanced offensively all season long as UB has scored 34 goals off the feet of 14 different players, the most of any team in the MAC through 19 games. Leading the offensive charge for the Bulls is graduate student Marcy Barberic who has recorded 10 goals and five assists while Katherine Camper, Gianna Yurchak and Arianna Zumpano have scored three goals each. The Bulls lead the MAC in assists per game (1.95) and shots on goal per game (7.16) and rank second in scoring offense (1.79), points per game (5.53), total goals (34) and total points (105).
The UB backline has played consistent all season long, recording eight clean sheets on the season. Senior Emily has been consistent between the pipes for UB, compiling an 13-3-3 overall record with a 0.97 goals against average, 61 saves and eight shutouts while starting all 19 games for the Bulls this season.
The Falcons earned the top seed in the tournament for the fourth straight season after closing out the regular season with a 9-6-3 overall record and an 8-2-1 MAC mark. Bowling Green is led offensively by redshirt senior Madi Wolfbauer who has recorded 10 goals and an assist while junior Nikki Cox and sophomore Lacee Bethea have added five goals each.
In net, the Falcons have relied on redshirt junior Lili Berg who has compiled a 1.05 goals against average and 71 saves in 18 games this season.

The Bulls broke through in the 61st minute as Leah Wengender played a ball across the field to Camper who settled and slid a pass to Barberic who fired a shot from about 25 yards out into the bottom left corner of the net to give Buffalo a 1-0 lead and the UB defense was able to secure the win. Kelly picked win, making four saves and in the shutout victory.
The two semifinal winners will return to the Cochrane Stadium pitch on Sunday, November 7, for the MAC Tournament championship match. First kick is set for 1pm.
