BUFFALO, NY β The University at Buffalo women's soccer team (3-3-1, 0-0-0 MAC) begins Mid-American Conference play this weekend with a pair of road matches against Toledo on Friday and Bowling Green on Sunday. The Falcons (2018) and Rockets (2017) have won the last two MAC Championships.
Friday will be the 26th all-time meeting between the Bulls and Rockets with the series split at 12-12-1. Buffalo has won seven straight contests against Toledo, most recently a 1-0 win at UB last season.
On Sunday, it will be the 25th series meeting for Buffalo and Bowling Green with the Falcons going 15-8-1 in the previous 24 match-ups. The Falcons have won three of the past five contests with the Bulls, including a 5-0 win at UB Stadium in 2018.
Buffalo is coming off a hard-fought 2-1 overtime loss at Oregon on Sunday. Marcy Barberic gave the Bulls a 1-0 lead in the 29th minute off a penalty kick and the UB defense held the high-powered Ducks offense without a goal until the 63rd minute when Oregon evened the game at one. The game would remain tied until the Ducks knocked home the game-winner in the 98th minute. Emily Kelly made a career-high 11 saves on 13 attempts on the night.
Toledo enters Friday's match with a 3-5 overall record after a 4-0 win at Detroit Mercy on Sunday. The Rockets are led offensively by Stephanie Currie who leads the MAC in goals and points with five and 13, respectively, to go along with three assists while also leading the team with 16 shots. Sheridan Bufe and Abby Demboski have also been main contributors as they have recorded two goals apiece on the season.
In net, Toledo has relied on Madison Perrin who has started the last five games for the Rockets, compiling a 3-2 overall record with a 1.80 goals against average and 26 saves on the year.
The defending MAC champions enter the weekend with a 2-4-2 overall record after falling 2-0 at West Virginia on Sunday. The Falcons are led by Nikki Cox who has recorded three goals and three assists while taking 18 shots, good for second on the team. Kennedy White has also impressed as she has scored three goals on 12 shots and Chelsee Washington is second in the MAC with 27 shots on the season.
Kathleen Duwve has led BG between the pipes, compiling a 1-3-2 overall record with a 1.70 goals against average and 18 saves in seven games this season.
Following the two road matches, Buffalo will return to UB Stadium to open a three game homestand, beginning with Miami (OH) on October 4 and Ball State on October 6.
