BUFFALO, NY – The Buffalo women's soccer team is back in action this week with one match on the road and one at home. First up for the Bulls is a trip to Saint Francis (PA) on Thursday, September 12, at 3 pm. Buffalo will then return home to host local rival Niagara at UB Stadium on Sunday, September 15, at 12 pm.
On Thursday, it will be the fifth meeting between the Bulls and Red Flash with UB holding a 3-1 advantage in the all-time series. Buffalo defeated the Red Flash 3-0 at UB Stadium last year.
Buffalo holds a 22-12-1 advantage over Niagara since 1986. It will be the first match between the two programs since 2015 where the game finished in a 1-1 draw at UB Stadium.
The Bulls are coming off a solid weekend in which they defeated Houston Baptist 3-0 on Friday night before playing to a 2-2 draw with Albany on Sunday. After struggling to score over the first couple games the offense came alive as the Bulls found the back of the net five times over the weekend with goals coming off the feet of five different players. Senior Adrianna VanCuyck and junior Marcy Barberic led the way for the UB as each recorded a team-high six shots, a goal and an assist over the two games. The Buffalo defense was once again on display on Friday as the UB backline held Houston Baptist to zero shots on the night.
Saint Francis enters Thursday's match with a 1-3-1 overall record after falling to Youngstown State 3-2 at home on Sunday afternoon. The Red Flash are being led offensively by Aubrey Suydam and Mariana Jaleca who have two goals and four points apiece, with Jaleca leading the team with 11 total shots. Emilee Barnett has also been a main contributor as she has recorded one goal, two assists and seven shots on the season.
In net, Saint Francis has relied on Julia Hernan who has started all five games, compiling a 1-3-0 overall record with a 2.56 goals against average and 21 saves on the year.
Niagara enters the weekend with a 4-1-1 overall record after playing to a scoreless double overtime draw with Cleveland State at Thursday. The Purple Eagles are led by Annie Ibey who has recorded a team-high four goals, an assist, nine points and a team-high 23 shots. Kelsey Arajo has also impressed, recording two goals, three assists and 21 shots on the year.
Following Sunday's contest, Buffalo will have a week off before traveling to Oregon on Sunday, September 22, for an 8pm (EST) contest with the Ducks to wrap up non-conference play.
